Additional Information for High School Students

Because a high school diploma implies that a student has successfully completed an adequate course of study to merit the diploma, there are additional requirements to obtain high school credits and graduation. We are NOT an accredited school, but we are considered a private church school. As such, most colleges, employers, and those offering scholarships will accept a transcript and diploma from us. In order to keep that privilege, we strive to keep high yet reachable standards for our students and their parent/teachers.

During high school, in addition to the attendance requirements, students will also have to have numerical grades for each class in each semester, as well as the assigning of academic “credits” for classes. The reporting of these items is done on the online record-keeping site, but we also have enclosed some forms to help you keep it all straight and plan your students’ high school years.

One of the first things that you will need to do is decide which type of diploma the student is attempting. We offer 3 types: an Advanced Academic Diploma, an Academic Diploma, and a Basic/Vocational/or Occupational Diploma. Please remember, it is always easier to aim high and then drop back a level than to try to cram in the extra requirements to get a higher type of diploma in the senior year! The requirements for each type are outlined on the next page. The page following that one is examples of what types of classes fulfill the diploma requirements.

Once you have determined which type of diploma the student is planning to achieve, you will need to plan for adequate course-work and materials. Remember, often in high school practical experience, correctly documented, can count for course work too. If you have any questions about a course, please ask me ahead of time. Another option is dual enrollment in a local college, thus simultaneously achieving high school and college credits at the same time. After the course-work is completed, grades must be reported at http://www.homeschoolreporting.com/.

Please see the highschool information packet for more details located on the form page.
